Wedding DJ Wollongong & Illawarra FAQs
Everything couples ask before booking a wedding DJ and MC in Wollongong, Kiama, Shellharbour, Thirroul, Berry and the surrounding areas: music, sound, insurance and how booking works.
Music & Dance Floor
Can we choose our own music and give a must-play and do-not-play list for our Wollongong wedding?
Yes. We work with you before the day to build your key moments: aisle walk, grand entrance, cake cut, first dance and the last song. You have full input on your must-plays, your overall vibe and a strict do-not-play list.
How do you handle guest song requests?
You set the ground rules in advance: open requests, strictly your brief, or curated requests filtered through us. If a request would clear the dance floor, we steer the guest to a better option and keep the momentum going.
What music does a Wollongong wedding DJ play?
We play open format, mixing live across eras and genres: 80s and 90s party anthems, 2000s R&B, funk and soul, through to house, indie dance and current floor-fillers. Every set adapts to your guests, so the music suits everyone from grandparents to your friends.
How do you read the room and keep people dancing?
We watch the floor constantly, tracking group energy and the age mix of the room. If a track does not land, we change direction quickly and cleanly, build the energy back up and keep people dancing until the end of the night.
MC Services & Coordination
Do you provide MC services for weddings in Wollongong and the Illawarra?
Yes. We handle formal announcements including welcoming the bridal party, introducing speeches and guiding guests through courses, in a natural, upbeat style that keeps your reception on schedule without taking the spotlight.
Do you work with our venue coordinator, photographer and videographer?
Yes. Before key moments such as speeches, the cake cut and the first dance, we check in with your venue team and photographer so everyone is ready before we call the room.
Equipment, Sound & Venue Logistics
What sound and lighting equipment do you bring?
We bring professional PA sound scaled to your venue and guest count, wireless microphones for speeches, dance floor lighting and a tidy, minimalist DJ setup. Our systems are tuned for Illawarra venues with glass walls and ocean breezes, so speeches stay clear at every table.
Can you provide sound for outdoor ceremonies without power?
Yes. We supply battery-powered, independent PA systems and wind-shielded wireless microphones for celebrants and vows, with no access to mains power needed. This suits beachfront, headland, garden and escarpment ceremonies.
How early do you arrive to set up?
We arrive 60 to 90 minutes before your first guest to load in, set up and complete a full soundcheck. Bump-in and pack-down sit outside your booked hours, so the music is already playing when your start time begins.
What backup equipment do you have?
We carry redundant gear to every wedding, including spare playback devices, a second wireless microphone and spare cabling, so one failure never stops the music.
Areas, Booking & Insurance
Which areas do you cover for wedding DJ services?
AMPT Australia is based in Wollongong and regularly plays central and beachfront venues including City Beach Function Centre, Novotel Northbeach and The Lagoon. We also cover North Wollongong, Thirroul and Austinmer, Kiama and Gerringong, Shellharbour, Berry and Kangaroo Valley, and the Southern Highlands, and can travel for suitable celebrations.
Do you hold Public Liability Insurance?
Yes. We carry $20M Public Liability Insurance, which meets the requirements of reception venues across Wollongong, the Illawarra and wider NSW. We can send a Certificate of Currency to your venue on request.
What happens if our DJ has an emergency on the day?
Genuine emergencies are very rare, but you are not left stranded. We work with a network of experienced wedding DJs, and a peer steps in with your playlist, run sheet and cues.
How do we book, and does an enquiry confirm our date?
An enquiry starts the conversation and does not confirm your booking. We confirm availability and fit with you directly, then a 25% deposit and signed agreement reserve your date. We then plan your music together and finalise the schedule 2 to 3 weeks before the wedding.
Can we extend the night if the party is going off?
If your venue licence and noise curfew allow, you can extend at an agreed flat hourly overtime rate.
