It is the first thing most couples want to know, so I have made pricing as transparent as I can. You do not need to wait for a reply to see where you stand: the instant quote calculator builds an indicative quote for your wedding in about two minutes. This guide explains what sits behind that number, so you can read any wedding DJ quote, mine or anyone else’s, with confidence.

How the instant quote works: choose Wedding, then enter your date, venue or suburb, guest numbers, indoor or outdoor setting, start and finish times and your estimated travel from Wollongong. Pick your DJ presentation and lighting, add your details, and the indicative quote is emailed to you. It is not a booking, no payment is taken, and I confirm availability and final details personally. Get an instant quote.

Why there is no single price

Two couples can both say they want a wedding DJ and need completely different things. One wants three hours of music in a hall in Wollongong. The other wants a ceremony, cocktail hour and reception at a farm near Berry, with an MC, lighting and sound for speeches. Those are different jobs, so they get different quotes.

What changes the price of a wedding DJ

  • How long the DJ plays. The more hours, the higher the cost. Ask whether setup, breaks and pack-down are included in the hours quoted or in addition.
  • What parts of the day are covered. Reception only is simpler than ceremony, cocktail hour and reception. Each part needs its own sound plan.
  • Ceremony sound. A clear microphone for vows and reliable music cues needs extra equipment and setup time. Outdoor ceremonies without power need battery-powered sound.
  • MC duties. Announcements, introductions and running the night add to the DJ’s role. See whether you need an MC as well as a DJ.
  • Equipment and lighting. Extra speakers for large rooms, wireless microphones for speeches and room lighting all affect the package.
  • Travel and location. A reception in Wollongong is a different trip from one in the Southern Highlands. Ask whether travel and earlier arrival are included. Our area guides show approximate distances for Kiama and Gerringong, Berry and the Highlands.
  • Date and season. Popular dates, such as Saturdays in peak season, are in higher demand. Quiet dates can sometimes offer more flexibility.
  • Venue complexity. Multiple spaces, long load-in distances or strict noise rules can mean more time and equipment.
  • Experience and demand. A DJ with a strong track record and a full calendar will usually price differently from someone starting out.
  • Overtime. If the night runs longer than planned, ask how extra time is charged before you agree to the booking.

What a wedding service includes

Knowing what is already covered makes any quote easier to read. The wedding service on my quote page includes:

  • A pre-wedding consultation, up to two planning meetings and a venue meeting where practical.
  • Music planning, special songs, and planning for entrances, the first dance and formalities.
  • Professional sound selected for your venue and guest numbers.
  • A wired DJ microphone and one wireless microphone for speeches.
  • A four-effect wedding lighting package, plus standard fog where the venue allows it.
  • Setup, pack-down, generous early setup time and backup equipment.
  • Five hours of reception coverage for reception packages, which can include arrivals, dinner and formalities as well as dancing.
  • For a standalone ceremony, up to two hours of coverage, with longer requirements reviewed personally.

You then choose a presentation style, either Retro Disco or Ultimate Premium, and decide on optional lighting and enhancements such as extra wireless microphones or fog effects. I also list my professional credentials on the quote page: public liability insurance, a Working With Children Check and a police check.

How to compare quotes like for like

A cheaper quote is not always a saving, and a higher one is not always better. Put each quote through the same checklist:

  1. How many hours of music, and are setup and breaks counted?
  2. Is ceremony sound included, and what about cocktail hour?
  3. Is an MC included, and what does that cover?
  4. How many wireless microphones, and for which moments?
  5. Is lighting included, and what kind?
  6. Is travel included for your venue?
  7. What is the overtime rate?
  8. What are the deposit, contract and cancellation terms?

If a quote is vague on any of these, ask. You can also run the same details through my instant quote calculator and compare it side by side. Questions in my guide to what to ask a wedding DJ will help.

Where to spend and where to save

A DJ shapes the pace of your reception and often the ceremony audio too, so I would think about value across the whole evening rather than just the lowest figure. If you need to trim, consider:

  • Shortening reception hours rather than cutting ceremony sound, since guests who cannot hear the vows notice.
  • Choosing a venue that already has good sound and lighting.
  • Keeping the MC role with your DJ if you have a relaxed, smaller wedding.

I would be cautious about cutting backup arrangements, written agreements or sound for speeches.

What to tell a DJ to get an accurate quote

  • Your date, and whether you are flexible.
  • Your venue and any areas the DJ will need to cover (ceremony, cocktail hour, reception).
  • Rough timings, including finish time.
  • Guest numbers.
  • Whether you want an MC, lighting and wireless microphones.
